Superintendent Blog

Dear Marlborough Public Schools Parents and Guardians:

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year!  As the school’s summer vacation period comes to an end, I would like to share some important information regarding grades one through five “Open Door” and the first day of school. Goodnow, Jaworek, Kane, and Richer Schools will all host a “Open Door Night” for students in grades 1-5 from 6:00-8:00pm on Monday, August 26th. This is an opportunity for students to come and visit their classrooms before the first day of school. Finding a parking space at the schools is always a challenge during these events, so please plan to walk to the school from your home or parked car. Students in grades 1-12 will begin school on Wednesday, August 28th.  September 5th is the first day for kindergarten and early childhood students. Early childhood and kindergarten students will be invited to attend orientation sessions at their schools. NRT will be providing bus routes to the district. We expect those routes within the next week. Once the district receives bus routes, they will be posted on the district’s new website  www.mps-edu.org. You may notice a reduction of individual stops for buses this year. This is a planned change as we try to make adjustments that will allow us to ensure more students arrive to school on time each morning. Throughout the school year I will also be holding community meetings to discuss a reduction in bus service for the 2025 and beyond school years. The district’s current bus contract expires on June 30, 2025, and we are anticipating an increase in cost that will not allow us to continue the same level of service.

In July we launched our new website. That website is still being updated. During the rollover some older documents may remain on the new website. We are aware of the issue and will continue to identify and remove these outdated documents as we add 2024-2025 information. Our new website also allows us to send out family communications through the news feed, app, text (limited characters), phone and email. We are all still learning how to us these tools but hope this will provide all families regular school and district information.

Enjoy the last few days of summer!

Regards,

Mary Murphy
